Global Biodiversity means total variability of life forms forms of planet Earth. It includes about 1,7 million known species, and that is thought to be serious underestimate of the total number of it. The United Nations proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. This year, IDB is part of the International Year of Biodiversity.
When first created by the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly in late 1993, 29 December (the date of entry into force of the Convention of Biological Diversity), was designated The International Day for Biological Diversity – see more details with CBD.

The BioModel team states that Biological Diversity assessment for further cost-effective conservation measures implementation gives more chances to the global society, it may help with appropriate future projections obtaining. In order to assess current and potential biodiversity state BioModel team advance usage of GloBio3 and national modelling approaches.

Resume (TBD, see ukr).
This spring BioModel participates in a small international project on development of the new book ‘Land Use, Climate Change and Biodiversity Modelling: Perspectives and Applications’ (2010). It is an outcome of the Dakar’s Modelling Workshop (December, 2009). The Forestry Faculty of Kasetsart University (Bangkok, Thailand) leads this process. Last week BioModel has finished its chapter ‘Modelling Climate Change and its Impact on Wildlife in Ukraine’.
April 12-15: the XVII International conference «Lomonosov»
BioModel has presented results of SDM-approach for East Europe. Thesis is available in russian.
Website GLOBIO model fully renewed. The GLOBIO model is a tool to assess past, present and future human impact on biodiversity. As a policy tool, it is regularly applied in global, regional and national assessments. The GLOBIO model is the result of a collaboration between the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL), the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and UNEP/GRID-Arendal. The renewed website provides information on the workings of the model and its applications.
BioModel’s note: the renewed GLOBIO-web presented to readers also pdf-version of the book ‘Landscape Ecology…’ (2008). See our Download section.
The article about the global-biodiversity-assessment-model-GLOBIO3 is available here, see BioModel ‘Publications’ section – http://biomodel.org.ua/?page_id=2439.

February 4, 2010: BioModel demonstrated new GLM-report to students and scientists in NAUKMA (Kyiv) during a climate-change-round-table session. The presentation was titled as ‘GLM-scenarios of animal-plant-areal fluctuation by 2050 due to expected climate change (Ukraine, Western Europe)’ As it turned out, many students and scholars have heard about such GLM approaches for the first time despite the fact that we are conducting these studies since 2005.
The new rhetorical question from our side is: how much time our colleagues i.e. biologists and managers need to read modern contemporary sources on BioticGeoInformation Science, but not only their own articles?
The environmentalists, members of the 16th Theriological School (Event), agreed that this 2010 year, they would devote to Otter (Lutra lutra). It has been reflected also in the original New Year’s greetings card, which they sent to our BioModel address. There is the BioModel’s comment: we are fully support the good initiative, and present to environmentalists the overview map on distribution of this species (pdf) in Western Europe. The map was compiled by EEBIO Project in 2005, and which can be seen among of other maps in the EEBIO Searchable System. GLM-scenario for the species has not been developed yet (at least it is not known to us). Maybe someone from the Ministry of the Environment will try to carry out of GLM-scenario?
The UN declared 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB). Throughout the year countless initiatives will be organized to disseminate …
